The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas to power) and the Fatah movement have decided to put an end to the violence triggered by a dispute over control of security forces, said Tuesday a Palestinian source.

Jamil Al-Majdalawi, member of Political Bureau of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), told reporters that the agreement was signed Monday at a meeting in Gaza between Ismail Haniyeh, Prime Minister and senior Hamas official, and Rawhi Fattouh, representative of President Mahmoud Abbas, who heads Fatah.

Mr. Al-Majdalawi, who also attended the meeting, leaders of Fatah and Hamas have agreed to put an end to conflicts and tensions that have claimed several lives in recent weeks.

MM. Fattouh and Haniyeh agreed to form the National Security Council which is under the control of Abbas and who will investigate the recent clashes between Hamas and Fatah.

The two sides also agreed to open negotiations on integration into the Palestinian Police Force security established by the government led by Hamas, despite the opposition of Mr Abbs.

Disputes over control of Palestinian security forces have led to violent clashes between Hamas and Fatah in the Gaza Strip.
