Hong Kong is launching a program for family tourism
The tourism department of Hong Kong (DTHK) has launched a program called “My Hong Kong Family” Sunday, March 19th to promote the city as the ‘final destination of families, not only for leisure but also for visitors of ‘business.
Local families are invited to establish an itinerary and guide a family overseas to travel around the city, helping visitors to discover the culture of Hong Kong and experience the life of the city.
Clara Chong, Executive Director of DTHK said during the launching ceremony of the program, his department will make efforts to expand the footprints of tourism in every corner of Hong Kong and bring more people to contact with visitors.
“We know that many visitors are interested not only in tourism, shopping and dining in restaurants, but also in cultural life and traditions of Hong Kong”, said the director.
“By launching this program, we seek to increase exchanges between local and foreign families, to enable visitors to contact local residents to know our culture and discover the unique experiences of our city in different areas,” she said.
Hong Kong has already identified the tourists came to the family as important to receive tourists, when he plans to launch the campaign year of discovery of Hong Kong in 2006, through measures such as the opening of Disneyland Hong Kong last September.
The Tourism Department will improve its tourism programs in its existing attractions such as Ocean Park, museums and hiking, walking on the trails leading to the heritage for family groups.
March 20 to April 25, participants will develop a tourism route in two days and will submit a copy. The 15 winning families will be elected to become ambassadors of the family of the year of discovery of Hong Kong.
